I like your idea for longer classes; I agree that a teacher could accomplish so much more in helping students process information. Your CD idea is really powerful in theme. The crayon drawing cover would be an effective visual to influence adults that their actions will affect future generations.

ideal college

My university would defiantly have fewer classes per semester. This is a great idea because students are able to focus on less subjects and get to know the material very well. These classes would meet at least 2 times a week and would be fairly long, maybe 2 hours. This way there is plenty of time for class discussion. Class discussion is important for classes like psychology. Everyone has known different information and there is always something new to learn from other people. With a longer length of classes, teacher would not have to spit information at students so they have enough time to get through all the material before the end of the semester. For example, in my anatomy class, I would much rather full understand the process of digestion than memorizing big meaningless words. I feel that expressing opinions and interacting with each other in class during the lecture is very important. This helps develop social skills for the future work life as well as helps me understand the material better when it is discuessed. Smaller class sizes so that connection can be made with the teacher is also a better way to learn.

Class should start at 9. Let's be honest, students sleep in til 12 if they have nothing better to do. I personally find that I can get a good night sleep, wake up at 9, and still function normally. I actually get more accomplished by not wasting half by day in bed. If i stay in bed pass 10, it's just because I'm lazy.

Student taught classes might be too much of a change. Teachers are necessary to teach what they have learn onto others. Students don't posses as much knowledge. Student are probably not responsible enough to run their own classes either. The work load within each class is manageable but the problem occurs when all the classes are combined. Fewer classes during a semester would help this problem.

t shirts

I am not a very religious person at all. These T-shirts that say "Jesus is my homeboy" really has no personal effect on me. But, if I were a very religious Christan I would probably be offended by the shirts. I feel like religion is a sacred matter and should not be printed onto shirts like that. I feel as though the cartoon shirt is a lot more controversial than the other and is more of a parody. When things are put into cartoon it makes it seem like a joke. Religion is a serious mater to some people and it should not be tossed into a pile of clothes.

Paul Mitchell does not approve of these t-shirts with Jesus picture on them but yet he once wore him himself. Mitchell he states, "I wore a white t-shirt with had a full color copy of a perhaps 17th century painting of the crucifixion."

If the shirts only had text and no picture it would be so much better. Images often skew views of things. I would like the shirt a lot more without the picture. Having only the words would be a lot less offense to the religion. Most printed shirts with a cartoon picture are childish and to bring Jesus down to that level is unheard of.

"Jesus is my homeboy" is trying to get the message across that they feel as though they feel close to Jesus. It is as if Jesus is their personal friend and they brought him down to his level. Some people could see this as a bad or good thing. Relating to Jesus as a friend is good but he is still god and should be seen as a higher figure. In the graphic, Jesus is holding the text which makes it seem like he supports the words. It also looks like is he was the one saying the words. The halo makes it look like Jesus is coming out of the heavens. The facial expression on Jesus face is very serious which shows that he serious about the words in his hands. The fact that the shirt is black makes it seem dark and gives it a negative vibe. A white shirt may have been better. For the shirt on the right, the font of the text makes it look like a comic and is very childish. The peace sign makes it look even more cartoon. A peace sign is so widely used today that it makes Jesus seem like the normal average person. The hoodie that he is in makes him seem bad and thug like. The colors used in the picture make it

CD

Song title: Deep breath
Genre: Country
Explanation: This song tells a story about how a little boy walks to school everyday and has to walk pass all these horrible smelling things such as cars, and factories. And one day when he is all growen up, he has a lot of lung problems.

Song title: Clean
Genre:Heavy metal/Rock
This song is about littering. Most of the song is screaming. There will be a lot of screaming so it sounds like people are being ordered to do things. It will apply to the audiences pathos and scare them into it.

Song title: Wilderness
Genre: Rock/alternative
Explanation: This song is all about protecting the wildlife as well as the wilderness. Since the song is rock, the lyrics appeal more to logos and there will be lots of facts. The voice will be inbetween screaming and singing. The lyrics will reason with the audience. The focus will be on protecting natural forests and parks so that the animals that live in them can be safe.

Song title: Too much too soon
Genre: Country
Explanation: This song is about our generation and how we are always buying new things we don't need. This song will tell a story about a little boy who always wanted to buy new things and pretty soon he realizes that they all just pile up in his closet. He doesn't even remember half the stuff he bought. Somewhere in the song there will be a list of random items that he finds in this closet.

Song title: reduce and reuse
Genre: R&B
Explanation: Recycling is the focus of this song. It is going to have a lot of logos and suggest easy ways to recycle. This song will also have a catchy phrase that will be stuck in people's mind, hopefully reminding them to recycle.

This song will cover all the aspects of recycling such as, what to recycle, where to recycle, how to recycle, and the most convenient way to recycle. Since this song is a R&B song, towards the end of the song the artist will say some words of encouragement about spreading the world on recycling. Kind of like how they would do it if it was a live show.

you gotta reduce and resuse
and save what you can each day
the paper the plastic
and this is what you have to say

recycle is the thing to do
It's up to me it's up to you
recycle is the thing to do
nothing beats it, you should have knew

This music video would be a lot of short clips of normal people going about their normal day. All the clips will be in different senarios such as, work, home, or school. Somewhere in each clip the main actor will do something that is not recycling friendly. When this happens, the chorus of the song will appear and they will remember hearing this song earlier in the day and instead of trashing, they will look over at the recycling and recycle. As the chorus comes on a second time, they will catch someone else in the act of trashing something they can be recycled and remind them.

CD Title: The World is in our hands

The entire cover would be made to look like a drawling out of crayons. The cover of the CD would have the words, "The World is in our hands" at the top written bubble letters with a crayon texture and font. There would be a picture of the earth in the middle. Surrounding this earth would be easy sketches of people. Each one of their shirts will say something different about saving our enviremonet. For instance one of could have recycling symbol. Others could have the world protect and have a picture of a tree.

steriods

I never really knew much about steroids, but after viewing this video it surprises me that there have been no long term studies done. This video fails to address all the people who have experienced symptoms and have abused steroid use. In the video, all the men being interviewed were very healthy and knew what they were doing. Most people probably aren't this way and are probably be the exact opposite. interviews from people who have experienced the non-life treating effects such as hair loss and acne were not present in the video. Both side of the steroid use should have been shown make a strong argument.

Steroid use is just as bad as any other drug use. If they showed no symptoms at all I might think twice about them. Since symptoms do exist, even though they are not life threatening, I disapprove the use of them. Achievement in sports should be based on talent and not steroid use. Therefore athletes no matter if they are in high school or at a professional level, should all be tested. I consider any use of any steroid as cheating no matter what sport, gender, or professional level. Talent comes from hard work and practice and steroids is just and easy way out.

I believe that our culture pushes athletes to be their best. But at the same time they should know their limit. The way I see it is to do everything you can to be "your" best and not "the" best. No I don't think this a double standard because we want them to try their best but most of all we want them to do it in a safe way. No one wants to cheer for a steroid user. There is a lot of pressure on athletes to be good but they should know what is good for them and what is not.

Georgetown social life

This crack down on Georgetown University is crazy. C0llege life is just not the same without the social scene. This does not mean that people have to go out every night and get wasted. But it also does not have to lead to people getting suspended for making a little noise on a Friday or Saturday night. There have been so many complains from neighbors in the area that "15 to 20 officers will be assigned to the residential neighborhoods near campus" said 2nd District Cmdr. Andy Solberg (qtd. in Kinzie). Kinzie explains that there are now newly enforced rules to limit size of parties within university housing. There is also a one keg limit for parties as well as having to registure a party before 10am on Thursdays (Kinzie B01). I feel like there would be better ways to crack down on the noise problems in the area instead of enforceing these rules on campus housing.

This crack down on parties is a great idea. The stop to underage drinking has to start somewhere. The university is only trying to "achieve a balance that promotes the safety and well-being of our students while fostering a vibrant social atmosphere on campus," said Jeanne Lord, associate vice president for student affairs (qtd. in Kinzie). In addition to enforcing these rules to provide a safer enviroment, the campus has also brought in somone to corrdinate events for the students night life (Kinzie).

Paraphrase

According to James D. Lester Students are over using direct quotes during note taking. More than 10% of direct quotations are being used their final paper. To fix this problem, students should use fewer direct quotes and words when preparing for papers.

Action Figures Blog 4

Article 1 compared the image of action figures throughout history. Their researched showed that as time went on, the toys became more and more masculine. They believed that this is because of how society portray men. This growth in masculinity leads to a problem called muscle dysmorphia. This is where men become obsessed with what they look like to the point where it interrupts their daily life style. A young age, these dolls may give boys the wrong impression of what their body image is suppose to look like.

Article 2 states that these action figure are simple not human and pure imagination. The writer does not believe that how they look has an impact on what children and their body image. Most of the dolls we play with have a lot of non-human quailties and are most superhero like than life like. It is nonsense to believe these little toys have an impact. The writer states that at the age where kids play with dolls, they aren't mature enough to pick up things like body image from the dolls.

Article one is written in a formal manner while article number two is made for a more casual audience. Both effectively present the authors argument. The first article was more of a research paper so the formal style worked, where as the second one was more if a opionion article. The first article included citations at the end of sentences which gives it creditabilty(ethos). The second Article has a lot of rehortical questions such as "Will the foolishness never stop?". These questions help draw the reader in but make the article less formal. The audience for the first article would be the people who design the toys or readers of a health magizine. The audience for the second artcile would be anyone whose interested. Since it is more casual, it coul dbe found in a daily newspaper, just as a random thought.

I agree more with the second article. Dolls are meant to be toys, and toys are to be played with the imagination. Therefore the action figures who have super powers are simply made up people from the imagination. When I was little, I was not a fan of barbie dolls simply because it was impossible to get their clothes on. I did not get the impression that this is what women are suppose to look like. I feel like the media and television do more influencing on that half. Plastic toys, not so much. Subconsciously the toys could have impacted my image and I wouldn't even know. My favorite dolls were always the stuff animal because of how soft they were. My parents did not limit me on which dolls I could play with based on how they look. How the doll's body was shape was never considered, but what they were wearing or holding might have been.

BLog #3

Pro-ana websites are a place where "women come together to support each other in a sickness rather than in health" (envisoin, 276). A website that supports a cause that is harmful to your health should be shut down. Especially since website are available to all ages that have access to a computer. Websites like these could push younger children over the edge and persuade them to follow through with their thoughts. Pro-ana websites only further their lifestyle and make them believe that it is acceptable because others are doing it. Having a Pro-ana website is just as bad as having a website where durg users support each other.

People who tend to be Pro-ana tend to keep this part about them to themselves. Pro-ana websites, allow them to escape and talk to someone who understand what they are going through. One of the main problems causes of this disease is because they feel worthless and don't hold value to the world unless they become Pro-anna. They feel ask they don't fit in and are alone. When feelings of alone become extreme, it could lead to suicide thoughts. "The memberes of a few sites send each other bracelets" (envision, 275). These websites let them know they are not alone. Shareing bracelet shows a bond, no matter if the bond is made for a good reason it lets them know that they are not alone.

These websites should be kept up because people with this disease tend to keep to themselves. And with out these websites we wouldn't know as much about this Pro-ana life style as we do. For this girls to be able to talk to someone will help them. Talking to each other is almost like their own kind of therapy. Pro-ana web sites allows them to let them express how they feel which is always good. Since this life to so secretory, it is hard to find out information about it. These website can also teach us more about what they are really feeling and going through and maybe in the future we can start using these websites to get them help.

Blog #2

I totally agree with the add on the blogg page about runners finding dead bodies. I watch a lot of television and a lot of the crime shows always start out with runners finding dead bodies. I also thought that it was a good and corny way to catch a readers attention.

The only place that I run, and that's if I run, is at the gym. The full add made me think twice about the difference between running and jogging but I don't fully agree with it. The part about running on the playground and how running is everywhere and jogging is a learn habit really got to me. That part I agree with but the add shouldn't have criticized joggers.

The picture showing the evolution of man caught my eye. The text in the add was very personal and directly aimed at the reader. I can defiantly tell that it was intended to persuade. Dark colors gave the add a negative tone and made the words seem more forceful.

This add promotes running by stating that it is vital to survial and it is in our nature, where as jogging is just a dumb learned habit that does it no good. I get the message to either run or don't run at all. Jogging is useless.

I see this add as marking advantage towards runners because it is giving runners a good image and runners would fully agree with this add and would back it up 100%. Runners seem to be very serious about their sport and this add looks down on joggers, who they give the impression to be people who just aren't good enough for running. This add defiantly boosts a runners ego.

Logos is used a lot in this add. The add really makes an impact with it's text because uses a lot of facts, reasoning and logic. The pictures added some pathos they didn't impact me as much as the writing. I would choose the first add because it was stronger. Runners are usually the ones who really pay attention to what shoes the are buying so they are the ones who will be looking at the adds. I buy a new pair of running shoes maybe once every two years and it is usually based on how they look and not the quality. The second add is more soft and personal to those who aren't runners but as a non runner, the add isn't as memerable remember able.

Some things just shouldn't be games...

Blog #1

I'm not a big fan of video games, but I've watched my brother play a fair amount when I was growing up. Since then video games have only become more violence. This American Army video game can be a good or bad invention. Good for those thinking about joining the army and want a better knowledge of what it is really like. And it can also be bad because joining the army should be a choice, not something you should be persuaded into.

The layout of the website is very well done. There are a lot of things going on on the front page but the black box at the top caught my eye. The message portrayed in the text catches my interest and makes me a little curious. The words "CLICK HERE to begin you adventure" really drew me in. The picture of the solider on the top right corner of the page makes me believe that the graphic of the game is very realistic.

The intended audience seems to be aimed towards older teens. The dark colors, realistic pictures attract an older audience, where as bright colors would be for a younger audience. I feel as though the text is also written in a more mature manner.

I don't feel as though this game deepens the ideology of war. Even before 9/11 there were plenty of war games that were just as graphic and almost as realistic. However, there is a big difference on how someone feels about joining the army and fighting for their country than how they feel about the war that is going on. This game effects the part about joining the army and not so much of the about the war. The only real problem that I have with this game is that it is made by the U.S. Army and it seems as though they have a second motive other than just creating a game as entertainment for kids.

This game in particular isn't any different from any other war/fighting oriented video game when it comes down to violence. It is probably as violent as any other game with a gun. Video games in general may promote violence and put ideas into kids minds but they can also be a way for kids to release their anger. By blowing things up virtually this may keep them from doing it in reality. It really all depends on the kid and their behavior. Certain games are rated mature for a reason. This is because they are more realistic game and made for teens who can tell the difference between what is real and what isn't.
